MCA Guesthouse

7000, Wenxian Road, Dali City

The Dali MCA Guesthouse remains is one of the hottest place for foreign backpackers to stay in Dali .  The guesthouse is located a bit south of Dali's south gate, and although a littel distance (10 miute walk)  from Huguo Lu, the only problem with this guesthouse is that it always seems to be full! The MCA has now opened guesthouses in Lijiang, Zhongdian and other tourist (backpacker) destinations. The MCA is much more than just a guesthouse. "MCA" stands for the Mekong Culture and Art Center which was established by the owner of the guesthouse in order to preserve and develop the traditional culture and art of the upper reaches of the Mekong River. The guesthouse gallery hosts regular original art shows and courses on Chinese art and culture. Also, the MCA offers short and long term courses in a variety of subjects: classical and modern Chinese art, calligraphy, Chinese language, Chinese music, and Tai Chi (Taiqiquan). As for the rooms, dorm beds start at RMB10, an entire double costs RMB50 and a deluxe double with private bath is RMB100 a day. For guests without a private bath, the   public bathrooms have 24 hour hot water.  The hotel cafe, a homely decorated place serves as a library, a bar and a music club with both Western and Chinese food. Films are also shown here on rainy days! Last, but by no means least, the MCA boasts the only swimming pool in Dali Gucheng. This is a fantastic pool, with gorgeous sun loungers around the edge where you can quite happily lie about for a day, or two, or three......
